On our own...

Our son is settled into college with classes starting today and Mark and I are on our own. Boy is it quiet around here. Who knew one person could be responsible for so much noise! The dogs miss him terribly and still spend the days laying on his bed and looking out the window. I miss him but also miss the fact that he carried off our trash whenever it started piling up on the back porch! We live out in the sticks without trash service so you need to cart it to the dump. Unfortunately I think my husband is going to think that once a week is good enough. Maybe with one more person out of the house we won't be making much trash. I can wish, right?

Our new camper comes off the factory line September 3rd. I would like to be excited but now I am just stressed. I need to go to CA for work next week. I'll have a week at home then a camping trip. Then I need to go to CA again for two weeks. We won't be able to pick up our new camper at the dealer until the end of the month. That one week I am home, I need to empty out the old camper and pack everything up. If we didn't have a camping trip planned for after Labor Day I would be doing it now but I will go camping and try to have a relaxing trip. It will be hard not thinking about everything I need to get done.

Maybe this will help bring on my camping relaxation:

The truck was fixed and made the trip with no problems. I tried going back to bed after they left Friday morning but just don't have the sleep in gene! I tried to ignore Matt's room but couldn't do that either. I dug in and got to work and here is a picture of the finished product.

A good day's work!

The empty nest

Tomorrow my husband will be following our youngest as he head off to college. After dropping off the extra baggage and making sure Matt's truck makes the trip, he will head home to start our life as empty nesters. We are both going to miss our son terribly but it's time for him to start a new life and time for us to live on our own again. It's been 26 years since we have had the house to ourselves. Of course all of this is dependent on the radiator replacement that is going on in the garage now! Matt's radiator exploded today so we are all hoping the truck makes it on the six hour drive with no problems.

Mark will be spending the night on the way back with friends so the dogs and I will be on our own. Time to get some sewing done!

So much for blogging frequently...

It's been a busy couple of weeks. We went to the bike show in Carlisle, PA and ended up buying a new camper. It should be delivered in six to eight weeks so I am now in a state of limbo. I'm trying to clean up the old camper and remove anything that is not absolutely necessary. We have a camping trip planned the first week of September and a long weekend planned in October. I think the new camper will show up between the two trips.

Our youngest is getting ready to head of to college. He will be leaving in two weeks. He has a lot to get done before then! I don't think he has packed up a thing! Not my problem...he's a grown man. I'm just sitting back and watching.

I had a good friend die of cancer a couple of weeks ago. Listen, if your doctor is not getting you better - see someone else. She had been going to the doctor since August and her doctor was giving her antibiotics. Guess what...she had lung cancer. The outcome could have been so much different if she had the correct testing done back in August. Instead four months after diagnostics, she was dead. Very sad.

Anybody else tired of summer? The heat this year has been awful. You would think we live in Florida instead of Virginia. Come on fall...Who would have thought that 88 degrees feels cool.

Fortunately I have quilting to keep me busy since it is too hot to do much outside. I finished two baby quilts that my husband wanted to give as gifts and have started on a quilt for the new camper. I need to spend more time with this to learn how to post pics.

Time to get back to the Sunday chores...

Please forgive my blogging ignorance

As my husband and myself get on in life, I am experimenting with ways to document our adventures as we learn to live on our own again. Our youngest son is heading off to college next month and we are both losing our buddy for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to this new phase---but it will be an adjustment. Anyway, after spending a couple of years enjoying the blogs of others on the internet, I decided to venture out on my own and will make an effort to write something frequently to keep myself on track.
